1932 James "Big Jim" Mills, local giant and former high school gridiron
star with the Roswell Coyotes, put together a squad of the biggest,
toughest boys in the Hondo Valley, and set out to make a mark in the
world of semipro football. Adopting the name Santa Fe Straight Arrows
(though the team was not based in Santa Fe), the team straddled Indian
motorcycles and traveled throughout the desert Southwest.
